IT MIGHT AS WELL BE SWING
Reprise, 1964
Mit “It Might As Well Be Swing”, dem zweiten Studioalbum von Frank Sinatra und Count Basie, erwartet den Hörer ein kurzweiliges, swingendes und leicht zu genießendes Album. Sinatra ist nicht nur wesentlich besser bei Stimme als auf der ersten Zusammenarbeit der beiden Musikgrößen, bei vielen der Songs spielt er vielmehr auch die ultimative Version ein.
Das ganze Album klingt nicht so hart und „kalt“ wie sein Vorgänger „Sinatra-Basie“, die Songs sind allesamt in einem swingenden Uptempo gehalten. „Fly Me To The Moon“ und „The Best Is Yet To Come“ sollten zu großen Hits in Sinatras Repertoire werden, im Studio lieferte er hier die besten Versionen der Songs ab.
Weitere Highlights sind sicherlich das rassige „I Believe In You“, das in charmantem Tempo swingende „More“ und die Hommage an Louis Armstrong in „Hello, Dolly!“. An die Genialität der Tony Bennett-Version von „The Good Life“ reicht Sinatras Einspielung des Songs allerdings nicht und „I Can’t Stop Loving You“ ist der einzige Song, der auf Grund des ungewohnten Sounds etwas deplatziert wirkt.
Das Album blieb nicht nur 31 Wochen in den US-Charts und erreichte mit Platz 13 seine höchste Platzierung.
