Die Radio-Jahre

Bereits seit Ende 1939 kann man Frank Sinatra im Radio hören. Irgendwo auf der Welt wird sicherlich gerade ein Sinatra-Song gespielt. Damals sang man noch live - heute werden fast ausschließlich CDs von den Künstlern gespielt.

Angefangen hat alles im "Rustin Cabin" Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, als Bandleader Harry James, der gerade das "Benny Goodman Orchester" verlassen hatte, den jungen Frank Sinatra singen hörte. Der "junge" Frank Sinatra ist insbesondere deshalb lustig, da Harry James selber nur einige Monate älter war als Sinatra.

In der folgenden Nacht fuhr Harry James ins "Rustin Cabin" und bot Sinatra an in seiner Band zu singen. Der Rest ist Musikgeschichte.

Erste Erfolge mit Harry James, dann mit Tommy Dorsey - aber eben immer nur als Band-Sänger. Zur damaligen Zeit war Frank Sinatra immerhin schon 27 Jahre und für ein Teeny-Idol eigentlich bereits zu alt! Außerdem war er verheiratet, seine TochterNancy war 1940 geboren worden.

Seinen ersten großen Auftritt als Solist hatte Frank Sinatra im Paramount Theater in New York. Es kam zu riesigen Fanaufkommen, wie vielleicht später bei Elvis oder den Beatles. Schon 1939 hatte er mit Harry James den Titel "All Or Nothing At All" aufgenommen. Der wurde 1943 erneut veröffentlicht - dieses Mal als "Frank Sinatra with Harry James Orchestra" - und nun wurde die Platte ein Nummer 1-Hit.

Während der Jahre mit Harry James und Tommy Dorsey sang Sinatra regelmäßg im Radio. Viele dieser Aufnahmen sind heute unter RCA Victor und Columbia Records veröffentlicht. Viel wichtiger für Sinatra war allerdings, dass er als Solokünstler 1942 seine eigene Radio-Show bekam. Diese Radioshows liefen unter verschiedenen Namen und mit verschiedenen Programmen bis ins Jahr 1955.
